LASER TOENAIL FUNGUS REMOVAL

Dear Doctors and Colleagues:

One of the greatest advances in medicine has been the development of lasers. Now treatment of resistant onychomycosis is being targeted by mid-infrared laser devices. I am currently working with the Cooltouch® Coolbreeze™ laser to help eliminate toenail fungus, without surgery or oral medications.

New hopes emerging

With the use of laser for the treatment of toenail fungus, it appears possible for patients suffering from this irritating syndrome to finally take their socks off in public. This will certainly be a great morale booster for the millions of sufferers. In fact, perhaps 15% of the world’s population is affected.

New way of treating toenail fungus

Toenail fungus has affected nearly 23 million people in United States alone. This new method of treatment aims at removing all types of toe nail and nail infections by selectively irradiating the fungi and eliminating it through targeted heat production. The best news is that, unlike other treatments, the nail and surrounding tissues remain intact and unharmed. The laser uses a near visible wavelength of light to target the fungus.

Why laser?

Laser toenail fungus treatment is safe and does not require expensive prescription medications or liver lab testing. Hundreds of medications, and home made appliances are used to cure and prevent toenail fungus over the centuries. The fact remains that despite claims made by such manufacturers, most of the medicines do not work. Some treatments take up to a year while others are expensive and may cost thousands of dollars for prescription drugs and necessary lab testing.

New lacquers proving insufficient

Antifungal nail lacquers such as Penlac® have failed to impress and often require prolonged treatment times and extensive nail debridement. At the same time they are also improving on their existing pills and ointments in order to fight the fungi. Over the years people who suffer from toenail fungus are losing their faith in these treatments and are turning towards laser technology. Who is a Candidate?

We invite your patient referrals. Patients with significant body or foot fungus should first be treated medically as this will be a source of re-infection. Likewise, those with onychogryphosis should have nail debridement first as extremely thickened nails have a much poorer response rate.

What are the costs and how can I find out more?

Soon I’ll post more information on my web site, www.drdannaker.com. Insurance will not reimburse for this procedure. In metropolitan areas a single treatment costing over $1,000 is typical. Our promotional cost will be $600. We treat all ten toes to address any sub-clinical infection. The patient may require more than one treatment and we suggest if there is a suboptimal response at three to four months, the patients have a second treatment.

Our laser uses the latest technology and employs a 10mm laser spot size, not the micro sized spots of the Pinpointe™ foot laser. Treatments take only minutes. A moderate and very tolerable sensation of heat is experienced by the patient during the treatment session. The laser hand piece automatically cools the skin with a pleasant cryogen spray.

If you or a patient is interested, please do not hesitate to call us at (831) 641-9950.

Sincerely,

Dr. Christopher J. Dannaker
